Abstract

The purpose of present study was to measure the effect of organizational role stress on quality of work life among teachers in higher educational institutions. The major thrust of this paper is to explore significant predictors of Organizational Role Stress which effect Quality Work Life of teachers in particular. It is hypothesized that teacher's quality of work life is significantly related with organizational role stress. As this research was exploratory in nature, a Quantitative approach was adopted. The participants of the study were 350 teachers from different colleges and universities of Haryana. The tool used in the study for data collection was Organizational Role Stress developed by Udai Pareek and other is Quality of Work life prepared by researchers themselves. QWL construct is composed of mainly four factors namely Growth prospects and job involvement, Challenges of work place and work load, Social elevation through work, Professional satisfaction. The findings revealed that the work life among teachers is negatively correlated with organizational role stress. Overall, there was a strong negative correlation between quality of work life and different dimensions of organizational role stress were found. Quality of work Life was primarily predicted by lower levels of Resource Inadequacy (R In), Personal Inadequacy (PI), Self Role Distance (SRD, Inter Role Distance (IRD, Role expectation conflict (REC) to a lesser extent by higher levels of Role stagnation (RS), Role Erosion (RE), and Role Overload (RO). Results revealed that Role stagnation (RS), Role Erosion (RE), and Role Overload (RO) were considered important element that affects Quality of work Life. Role Stagnation, Role Erosion, and Role Overload related issues may be given priority to overcome stress among teachers. The findings of this study also recommends the importance of intrinsic rewards to faculty job satisfaction, with a sense of personal control over one's career and the satisfaction of academic work exercising a direct effect. Human Resource Development Center may give their best contributions to excel our faculty by providing them exposure of reflective practices, enriching life skills and soft skills along with spiritual practices,by collaborating foreign academia's and their respective field to boost up the required grooming for best outcome among teachers.
