Abstract
Red orange extract is an important component of what is called the Mediterranean diet and they have been used by traditional medicine for their protective health properties, especially to cure sore throats and coughs, showing interesting anti-inflammatory activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immuno modulation activity of red orange extract (Citrus sinensis variety: Moro, Tarocco, Sanguinello), which contained anthocyanins, flavanones, hydroxycinnamic acid and ascorbic acid, in mice with hyperglycemia. The results of this study indicated that the administration of red orange extract increased the expression of gamma interferon (IFN-γ) in hyperglycemic white rats. IFN-γ had an important role in enhancing the phagocytic function of macrophages.
