Abstract

In this paper, a 3-D evaluation method for internal charging in dielectrics is established and verified by experimental data. The effects of the grounding method and the operating voltage on the internal electric field of polyimide are studied. The results show that the grounding method determines the grounding area and the maximum transmission distance of the deposited charge, increasing the grounding area and reducing the transmission distance can effectively reduce the internal electric field. In addition, when the operating voltage increases from 100 to 5000 V, the maximum electric field decreases gradually in case B (Grounded-Vs) and increases gradually in case D (Vs-Grounded). If the working voltage needs to be increased, the Grounded-Vs mode seems to be a good choice. When increasing the operating voltage, the key is to evaluate the influence of the external electric field on the transfer performance of the deposited charge.
