Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of open reduction and internal fixation on severe thoracic trauma patients with rib fracture. Methods One hundrad and ten patients with severe thoracic trauma from January 2013 to January 2015 were selected, and were divided into fixation group and control group according to the treatment method, with 55 cases in each group. The control group was treated by conservative treatment, and the fixation group was treated by open reduction and internal fixation for rib fracture. VAS rating scale was used to evaluate the pain of two groups of patients at different time points after admission.SPSS 20.0 software was used to compare the length of stay, the dosage of sedative drugs and the incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications in the two groups. Results After treatment, pain showed a trend of gradual decline with time prolong, fixation group decreased more significantly, and the pain score in the fixation group 3 h, 1 d, 2 d, 3 d postoperative was significantly lower than that in the control group (P< 0.05). In the fixation group, the dosage of sedative drugs and the length of stay were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05); the incidence of pulmonary complications of the fixed group was significantly lower than that of the control group, the difference was significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Open reduction and internal fixation of rib fracture in patients with severe thoracic trauma can effectively reduce the pain of patients, the incidence of pulmonary complications postoperative and sedative drug dosage, and has a high safety, so it is worth promoting.
