Abstract

The influence of nutritional state upon the process of ageing is reviewed, and the differences in the changing pattern of the liver and kidney with advancing age between Japanese and Caucasians are discussed with special reference to their nutritional condition. Even for the human organs, as observed experimentally, a nutritional condition lower in calories or a reduced protein intake retards their development and growth and accelerates their ageing process in the later stage of life.
