Abstract

In order to clarify the effect of nonlinear creep force on railway truck dynamics, an analysis, including saturation characteristics in creep force, has been formulated. Numerical simulations using the RKG algorithm have been performed with a 6 degrees-of-freedom truck model. The results indicate that the truck vibrations are considerably different from those obtained by linear analysis, especially in the stability. The stability depends on the amplitude of vibrations ; large amplitude makes the vibration unstable. Conclusively, this nonlinear analysis gives a lower critical speed than that by linear analysis. The difference is found to be 5-25 (m/sec), which explains more likely the hunting characteristics in service.
