Abstract
The morphology and phase composition of the combustion products in air of Al nanopowder mixed with diamagnetic TiO2 and ZrO2 was studied. The influence of non-uniform magnetic field on the combustion process of the oxide-metal powdery mixtures led to the stabilization of TiN and ZrN in the final products. The two-level whiskers of AlN formed at the combustion of Al-TiO2 mixture, while the agglomerated structures covering the large particles of ZrN formed at the combustion of Al-ZrO2 mixture. During combustion of oxide-metal mixtures in non-uniform magnetic field, diamagnetic metal dioxides are reduced to metals or their suboxides and then interact with atmospheric nitrogen.
