Abstract

Abstract The effect of noble metal treatment on the electrochemical corrosion potential (ECP) behavior and corrosion of carbon steel (CS) in 288°C water (H2O) under various water chemistry conditions was evaluated. It was shown that the presence of noble metal on the CS surface shifted the ECP to the noble direction in reducing environments at low-oxygen (O2) concentrations by catalyzing the hydrogen (H2)/O2 water reduction reaction, thus decreasing the corrosion rate of CS.
