Abstract

Negative and positive gas ions were found in nitrogen gas, irradiated with a Sr/sup 90/ source. An increased nitrogen fixation in Azotobacter vinerandii supplied with positive gas ions was detected, compared to cells fed with non-irradiated gas or negative gas ions. The effect was found to be one of a decreased glucose consumption.
