Abstract

The phosphate glasses with chemical composition of Na2Pb1−xNixP2O7 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) have been prepared using the melt quenching technique. XRD and DSC analysis has been performed on the investigated samples to confirm their amorphous and vitreous nature. The density was measured by the conventional Archimedes’ method. The magnetic responses were studied to determine the magnetic behavior of glasses. UV–Vis analysis was used to study the effect of the dopant NiO on the optical band gap, refractive index and optical basicity. It was found that the density and the optical band gap decreased with increasing NiO content. The refractive index, the absolute value of the Curie–Weiss temperature and the molar Curie constant increase with increasing NiO content. The variation of the different physical properties of the studied glasses was discussed in reference to different parameters such as non-bridging oxygen and different cation concentrations in the glass matrix.
