Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of neuromuscular electrical stimulation on menstruation after induced abortion. Methods 150 women with early pregnancy scheduled for induced abortion in department of obstetrics and gynecology of our hospital were collected from June 2015 to May 2017, and were randomly divided into three groups, with 50 cases in each group. The routine group was given only postoperative treatment, the drug group was given oral Marvelon treatment on the basis of the routine group, the neuromuscular electrical stimulation group was treated with the Phenixusb4 neuromuscular electrical apparatus on the basis of the routine group. The following indicators were compared and observed among the three groups: the changes of endometrial thickness on the 15th day after operation, the changes of sex hormones on the 15th day after operation and the 3rd day after menstruation, the first menstrual recovery time after operation, menstruation in six consecutive cycles after abortion, and the levels of blood FSH, LH, E2, and P on the 15th day after operation and the 3rd day after the first menstruation. Results On the 15th day after operation, the endometrial thickness of the drug group and neuromuscular electrical stimulation group were significantly thicker than that of the routine group (P 0.05), which were slightly higher in neuromuscular electrical stimulation group; there were no statistically significant differences in the levels of blood FSH, LH, E2, and P between the drug group and neuromuscular electrical stimulation group on the 3rd day after the first menstruation (P>0.05), which were lower than those in the routine group (P 0.05). Conclusions Neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy can reduce the probability of menstrual disorder after induced abortion. Although its effect is the same as drug treatment, drug treatment takes a long time and long-term use of drug can cause liver and kidney damage and other side effects. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy is simple, noninvasive, has no obvious adverse reactions, with good patient compliance. Therefore, it can be used as adjuvant therapy to prevent menstrual disorder after induced abortion. Key words: Neuromuscular electrical stimulation; Induced abortion; Endometrium; Menstrual cycle time; Menstrual volume
