Abstract

The effect of Nb addition on the magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of CoNb x Mn 1− x Sb alloys has been investigated. It has been found that the Curie temperature of CoMnSb alloy can be adjusted by Nb addition. On the other hand, Nb addition to CoMnSb alloy dramatically influences the magnetic properties and the MCE of CoMnSb alloy. For example, with the increase of Nb content, the saturation magnetization decreases linearly, and the transition of magnetization with temperature turns to smoother. These facts result in a reduction of magnetic entropy change, but a broader working temperature span.
