Abstract

The contribution from correction ΔT to the brightness temperature of hydrometeor formations that arises owing to the effect of multiple scattering of radio waves is investigated as a function of thickness s of the hydrometeor layer, zenith observation angle Θ, and scattering properties of the medium. The calculations are performed with the use of a radiophysical precipitation model developed earlier. It is shown that dependence ΔT(s) has a peak and that ΔT depends weakly on Θ in the angular range 0°–50° and increases with the parameter characterizing backward scattering.
