Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of multiple joint activities on the prevention of complications in patients with PICC. Methods Totally 165 cases of PICC patients in Huai′an First People′s Hospital from January 2014 to June 2015 were collected and were ordered according to the time of indwelling catheter placement, patients with odd numbers were divided into the observation group and patients with even numbers were divided into the control group. All the cases met the inclusion criteria. Effective cases in the control group were 78 and in observation group were 82. The control group adopted hand grasping method which was used commonly in the clinics. The observation group took multiple joint activities method. The incidence of complications was counted within 1.5 years. Results The incidence rates of phlebitis, vein thrombosis, puncture point hemorrhage and catheter misplacement were 11.54%, 10.26%, 26.92% and 2.56% in the control group and 2.44%%, 1.22%, 30.49% and 2.44% in the observation group. The incidence rate of phlebitis and vein thrombosis had a significant difference between two two groups (P 0.05). Conclusions Multiple joint activities can significantly reduce the incidence of phlebitis and venous thrombosis in patients with PICC. Key words: Multiple joint activities; PICC; Complications
