Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of multimedia technology on health education on sharp injuries prevention for nursing staff in operation room. Methods Our hospital began to implement the multimedia propaganda and education on prevention and treatment of sharp injuries since March 2016. 25 nurses in the operation room of our hospital were selected as the observation object, the knowledge awareness on prevention and treatment of sharp injuries, the incidence of sharp injuries, the rate of correct disposal, and the reporting rate before and after multimedia education intervention were compared. Results After the intervention, the knowledge awareness score of sharp injuries related high-risk behaviors or operation, prevention measures of sharp injuries, correct disposal methods of sharp injuries, the reporting of sharp injuries were significantly higher than those before the intervention, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The incidence of sharp injuries after the intervention was lower than that before the intervention (12.00% vs.44.00%), the rate of correct disposal, and the reporting rate were significantly higher than those before the intervention (100.00% vs.72.73%, 100.00% vs.54.55%), with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). Conclusion Multimedia propaganda and education on prevention and treatment of sharp injuries has good effect in nursing staff in operation room, is helpful to improve the occupational protection consciousness and level of the nursing staff, ensure the health and safety of nurses in operation room, which should be promoted.
