Abstract

Data on the effect of impurity, alloying, and modifying elements on the growth of graphite crystals in a saturated iron—carbon melts are presented. It is shown that the crystal growth rate on a prism face in unmodified alloys is higher than that on the basal plane, indicating a kinetic growth mechanism.
