Abstract

The effect of using a buffer layer on the structure and magnetic properties of Nd-Fe-B thin films has been investigated. In the amorphous state, weak perpendicular anisotropy constants ( K A ) of the films with Ti buffer layer were found to be higher in metal substrates (0.09 J/cm 3 ) compared to Si substrate (0.02 J/cm 3 ). In the crystallized state, magnetic properties were found enhanced by the use of a Ti buffer layer. Highly anisotropic behavior with coercivities >1.6 MA/m were found on metal substrates compared to magnetically isotropic characteristics on Si substrate.
