Abstract

The two phase batch esterification of cepharosporic acid with p-nitrobenzylbromide in organic solvents with K 2CO 3 solid particles suspended in the mixing tanks has been experimentally examined to propose the mathematical model of the reaction mechanism. The behavior of the reactor has been well simulated by the proposed mathematical model of the reaction mechanism. The mass transfer coefficients have been correlated successfully by taking the effects of gravity and turbulence damping. The optimum operating conditions for the large scale reactor with geometric similarity has been determined by the proposed correlation, and the calculated conversions to the ester agree fairly well with the experimental data.
