Abstract

The content of two major classes of neurotransmitters (monoamines and amino acids) and their main metabolites is measured in rats at certain intervals afterper os administration of mexidol (150 mg/kg). The level of dopamine and of its metabolite dihydroxyphenylacetic acid is found to be considerably elevated in the frontal cortex, suggesting a pronounced cortical component in the mechanism of action of mexidol.
