Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of metoprolol sustained release tablets combined with Shuxuetong injection on serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and adiponectin (APN) in elderly patients with hypertension. Methods 123 cases of elderly patients with hypertension in our hospital from February 2015 to January 2017 were divided into two groups according to the different ways of treatment. 61 cases in the control group were given metoprolol sustained release tablets treatment, and 62 cases in the study group were given Shuxuetong injection based on the control group. The diastolic blood pressure, systolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, serum VEGF, APN levels, and quality of life (SF-36) score of the 2 groups were analyzed and compared before and 2 months after treatment. The clinical effect and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the 2 groups. Results The clinical effect of the study group was better than that of the control group (P 0.05]. Conclusion Metoprolol sustained release tablets combined with Shuxuetong injection is effective in elderly patients with hypertension, which can effectively reduce the blood pressure, heart rate, serum VEGF and APN levels, and improve prognosis, with higher safety. Key words: Shuxuetong injection; Metoprolol sustained release tablets; Hypertension; Vascular endothelial growth factor; Adiponectin
