Abstract
When the PdCl2-pyridine catalyst is activated by methyl iodide the optimum temperature for the synthesis of phenyl isocyanate by the carbonylation of nitrobenzene drops from 200 to 160°. The effect of the MeI consists in its reaction with the pyridine to give N-methylpyridinium iodide.
