Effect of mechanical ventilation on pulmonary and systemic inflammatory mediators

Abstract

Ventilator associated lung injury (VALI) is a kind of lung injury which induced or aggravated by inappropriate mechanical ventilation.Many factors can contribute to VALI.During inappropriate mechanical ventilation,the lung tissue will produce and release several kinds of inflammatory mediators,which will transfer to distal organs with blood circulation,present as biotrauma,one of the types of VALI.Biotrauma is correlated with multiple organ failure and mortality of patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
