Abstract

In premature infants, weight gain becomes the main criterion for hospital discharge. Research shows that massage therapy had led to weight gain in premature infants when moderate pressure massage had been provided. Aims:The present study aimedto determinethe effect of massage therapy on vital signs of premature infant at Neonatal Intensive Care Units.The total sample included sixty low birth weight premature infants, who were selected from the Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Sohag Affiliated to the ministry of health hospitals. Tools:Two tools have been used: Structure Questionnaire Sheet about Socio-demographic data of low birth weight infants and General condition of premature infants. Conclusion: massage therapy has positive effect on weight of premature infants. Recommendation:nurses who work in Neonatal Intensive care units should receive training program of massage therapy to improve their practice regarding general condition of premature infants.
