Abstract

The influence of HCG and PMSG on in vivo and in vitro testosterone production by the testis has been studied in the spiny-tailed lizard, Uromastix hardwicki. Administration of PMSG caused a significantly higher increase in testicular and plasma testosterone concentrations compared to the rise in testosterone levels obtained with HCG treatment. Incubation of testicular tissue with different doses of gonadotropins indicates that PMSG is several times more potent than HCG in stimulating testosterone synthesis by the lizard testis.
