Abstract

This study investigates the impact of saturation magnetostriction (λs) on ac initial permeability (μi) at 1 kHz for a range of Fe-based amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys with varying levels of λs from close to 0 to + 38 ppm. Results demonstrate a negative correlation between λs and μi across the tested compositions, highlighting the importance of considering magnetostriction in the development of the exchange-softened magnetic alloys. It has also been found that μi and core loss at 1 kHz and 1.0 T are negatively correlated, despite a large difference in the applied magnetic field. Thus, for a given frequency, high μi is a good indicator of low core losses. The negative correlation between λs and μi suggests that the domain wall dynamics is influenced by magnetostriction.
