Abstract

The combined effect of a horizontal magnetic field and rotation on Kelvin-Helmholtz instability of a stratified fluid is considered. In two uniform fluids the short-wave perturbations are stabilized by magnetic field and surface tension, while rotation has a second-order effect. In the long-wave range the magnetic field increases the effect of rotational instability. Stability of fluids with exponentially varying density is discussed.
