Abstract

AVERAGE semen samples from turkey males, obtained after regular intervals of 2, 3 or 7 days are similar in volume, but volume decreases gradually when semen is collected daily (Lorenz et al., 1955). In our work on the semen production of turkey males, semen has been collected weekly (Carson et al., 1955). To explore methods of simplifying the sampling, data were obtained on the effect of long intervals between sampling, and of mating, on volume and concentration of semen produced.MATERIALS AND METHODSThe methods and Bronze stock used were those previously described (Carson et al., 1955). To test the effect of interval between samples, three sampling intervals were established—1, 2, and 4 weeks—each involving a separate group of 13 turkey males.
