Abstract

The effect of load ratio ( R-ratio) on the fatigue crack growth behaviour of DISPAL 2, a dispersion strengthened aluminum alloy, was determined. The R-ratio was found to have a significant effect on both Δ K th and Δ K fc. A two-parameter approach suggested by Vasudevan and co-workers was used to explain the effect of R-ratio on Δ K th, whereas the effect of R-ratio on Δ K fc was attributed to the fact that final fracture occurs when K fc equals the monotonic fracture toughness of the alloy.
