Abstract
Self-healing is a prospective approach that can extend the service life of structures and reduce the consumption of resources and energy. This study investigated the applicability of a ternary self-healing composite system with mineral additives, lightweight aggregate built-in carbonate and super absorbent polymer. Two evaluation analysis, i.e., crack area recovery test and scanning electron microscopy observation, was carried out. The results showed that the healing efficiency of crack areas could be improved by the self-healing system. Ettringite and CaCO3 crystals were determined to be the main healing products.
