Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze factors which contributed to the improvement of worker's job satisfaction through the approach from outside of worksite. Lifestyle modification program consisting of aerobic exercise and diet counseling was conducted for 12 weeks in the community. The data before and after the intervention from 351 workers were obtained. The subjects were asked to fill out questionnaires about work-related items, lifestyle, and mental health status assessed by the 12-item version General Health Questionnaires (GHQ) and the question on coping with stress. In addition to the ameliorations of GHQ, lifestyle, and subjective symptoms, the worker's job satisfaction was improved through the participation in the community-based lifestyle modification program. For analyzing factors which contributed to the improvement of job satisfaction, logistic regression analysis was employed. Acquirement of ways of coping with stress was independently contributed to the improvement of job satisfaction even after adjusted by the other variables. The health promotion program implemented in the community improves worker's job satisfaction probably through the acquirement of the appropriate ways of coping with stress.
