Abstract

In this paper, we consider spatial soliton propagation in Kerr nonlinear media with harmonic modulation of the refractive index, and investigate the effect of the lattice modulation for small-scale self-focusing of beam in optical lattice. Based on the modulation instability theory, the effect of lattice modulation on small-scale self-focusing of beam in optical lattice is studied both analytically and numerically. It is investigated how the perturbation changes with lattice modulation. Comparing the gain spectrum in lattice modulation with that without lattice modulation, we find that without the lattice modulation the perturbation gain increases with the input power when the input power is large enough to initiate the modulation instability. The gain of the noise is controlled when the lattice modulation is induced.
