Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the amount of added latex and accelerator on the strength development and chloride ion penetration properties of concrete used for the repair of concrete pavement. Such pavement must be re-opened to traffic 3 days after repairing. The target values of the latex-modified repair concrete were as follows: a compressive strength of 22 MPa and a flexural strength of 4.5 MPa after 3 days, and a compressive strength of 27 MPa and chloride ion penetration value of < 2,000 coulombs after 28 days. In this study, latex was added at 0, 5, 10, and 15% of the cement weight, and the accelerator was added at 0 and 1% of the cement weight. The test results indicated that the mixes with accelerator and latex contents of 10 and 15% satisfied the target strength and chloride ion penetration values for the 3-day traffic opening requirement.
