Abstract

The effect of laser shock peening (LSP) on the electrochemical corrosion behavior of AA6061-T6 with different original surface roughness in the 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated by surface morphology measurement, microstructural characterization, and electrochemical corrosion testing. The results show that LSP improves passivation current density by 76.6%− 78.2% and polarization resistance by 287.2%− 288.9%, but does not change the influence law of the surface roughness on the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloy. LSP promoted the complete dissolution of nano-sized Al8Fe2Si particles, generation of ultrafine grains, and local dissolution of micron-sized Al8Fe2Si particles, contributing to the improved corrosion resistance.
