Abstract

Ti6Al4V is an important aerospace alloy with exciting properties but exhibit poor wear resistance behaviour. Therefore, the surface of the material should be modified in applications requiring better wear resistance. Laser metal deposition (LMD) process is used for manufacturing composite material. In this study, composites of Ti6Al4V/TiC were produced using the laser metal deposition process. The influence of laser power and powder flow rate on the wear resistance behaviour of the composite was investigated. The study revealed that, as the laser power was increased, the wear resistance was increased; whereas, as the powder flow rate was increased, the wear resistance decreases.
