Abstract

Recent estimates suggest that approximately 6% of pharmacists nationwide belong to a labor union.1 At least three unions (Guild for Professional Pharmacists, National Pharmacists Association [NPhA], and Independent Pharmacists Association) enroll only pharmacists as members. Their members are primarily employed in community and managed care settings in Illinois and California. Several other labor unions have enrolled pharmacists as members, including United Food and Commercial Workers; American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; Service Employees International Union; and the Teamsters.
