Abstract

Abstract The role of Δ (1232) at finite temperature is considered in pion condensation in 16 O. Taking into account the effect of the Δ's the free energy of the spin-isospin phase, where the spins of all the protons are oriented one way and those of neutrons in the opposite direction, is compared with the free energy of the normal phase. For higher temperatures (T> 15MeV) the critical density of the phase transition increases with temperature. Smaller temperatures are found to contribute to the development of the condensate. The Δ's get increasingly more important with higher density and temperature.
