Abstract

Duplex ultrasound-derived velocity measurements are the most often used factor in determining the need for carotid artery revascularization. Evidence has shown that severe ipsilateral carotid stenosis can cause artificially elevated velocities in the contralateral carotid artery, which can decrease after ipsilateral revascularization. The objective of the present study was to determine whether contralateral carotid artery duplex ultrasound velocities will decrease after ipsilateral carotid endarterectomy (CEA) or stenting procedures.
