Abstract

179 EFFECT OF INTRAVESICAL LIDOCAINE ON URODYNAMIC PARAMETERS IN PATIENTS WITH INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS/ PAINFUL BLADDER SYNDROME (IC/PBS) Arun K Srinivasan*, Edan Y Shapiro, Casey A Seideman, Robert M Moldwin. New Hyde Park, NY. INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: Intravesical instillation of lidocaine has been shown to provide relief of pain and urinary urgency in IC/PBS patients. This study was performed to quantify changes in urodynamic parameters that could be responsible for this improvement. METHODS: Between April and August 2007, eight patients who fulfilled NIDDK criteria for IC/PBS underwent multi-channel urodynamic evaluation (UDS). Two UDS evaluations were performed for each patient, one to obtain baseline values prior to the lidocaine instillation and the other after the patients were exposed to 20 cc of intravesical 2% lidocaine for 10 minutes. Urodynamic parameters were compared before and after lidocaine instillation using paired t-test analysis and p-values were obtained.
