Abstract

BENZATHINE penicillin (N,N′-dibenzylethylenediamine dipenicillin G) is a long-acting repository penicillin that provides low serum penicillin levels for three or four weeks after a single intramuscular injection of 1,200,000 units.1 It has been shown to be highly effective and safe in preventing recurrences of rheumatic fever in children2 and is being widely used for this purpose as well as for the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis.
