Abstract

(Anesthesiology. 2016;125(3):474–483) On the basis of case reports since 2006 and laboratory studies dating back to 1998, rapid intravenous administration of lipid emulsion—“lipid rescue”—has become standard treatment for local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST). Hence, the purpose of this crossover study in volunteers was to determine the effect of Intralipid (Fresenius, Paris, France) administration on the time to neurologic symptoms during local anesthetic systemic toxicity (eg, convulsions; severe arrhythmias).
