Abstract

Intracoronary injection of 5 ml. CO2 gas in 11 anaesthetized dogs caused marked coronary vasodilatation and enhanced myocardial blood flow both during control ventilation and when preceded by a brief period of moderate hypocapnia. It caused no tachyarrhythmia or change in mean aortic pressure. On the other hand, O2 gas injection caused ventricular fibrillation leading to death in two of the three animals studied.
