Abstract

This paper discusses the results from Phase IV of a comprehensive research study on the effect of fly ash on alkali-aggregate reaction in concrete being conducted at the University of Texas at Austin. The work described herein consists of a study to evaluate the effect of fly ash fineness on its efficiency in reducing alkali-aggregate reaction expansion in concrete, This study is of particular importance in the design processes for the production of blended Portland cements where the options are either adding the fly ash to the finished cement or intergrinding the fly ash with the clinker prior to final grinding.
