Abstract

The effect of interferon on viral transformation has been examined in a system where helper leukemia virus is not required for focus formation. This allows direct investigation of the effect of interferon on sarcoma virus function. No alteration in the morphology of foci was observed. A small (approximately 50%) reduction in the number of foci was observed with concentrations of interferon that did not affect cell growth. This reduction was observed only when interferon was present early in infection.
