Abstract
This research has conducted in order to examine the effect of previously selected Rhizobium leguminosarum strains on the yield and protein content of common vetch (Vicia sativa L., cv. Karaeli) under field conditions. The treatments included control (untreatmented), 5 kg N/da, inoculation with R. leguminosarum strains of M2426, M90, M8, M9, M10, M11, M13, F15. The mentioned strains were applied to irrigation water when plants reached 2-3 cm hight. Ten treatments were set up according to the "2 x 10 Factorial Experiment, Randomized Blocks" design. The results for two-year period were as follows: The nodule formation was detected on roots of all the plants. The most effective strains were M2426, M11, M13 for the maximum yield, and M2426, M8, M9, M11, F15 for the the highest protein content in the common vetch cultivar. In conclusion, R. leguminosarum strains of M2426 and M11 were recommended for maximum yield and highest protein content in common vecth under Erzurum conditions.
