Abstract

Based on the theory of Biot's incremental deformations, the axisymmetric torsional wave controlling equation of the unidirectional composite hollow cylinder with uniform initial stress is deduced in this paper. The exact dispersion equation is obtained by the first and second Bessel functions. In order to illustrate the effect of the initial stress on the axisymmetric torsional wave in the unidirectional composite hollow cylinder, axial initial stress and radial initial stress are discussed respectively. Numerical results show that the effects of the initial stresses in axial and radial directions on axisymmetric torsional wave both are very regular and the effects of the compressive stress on dispersion curves are contrary to those of stretch stress, but the influential manners of the axial initial stress and the radial initial stress to the dispersion curves are different.
