Abstract

The effects of inhomogeneous broadening on the excitation profiles for resonance coherent and spontaneous Raman processes are compared. Due to coherence considerations, different ensemble averaging procedures are used to include such effects in the descriptions of these processes. The validity of using electronic absorption linewidths in calculations of resonance CARS excitation profiles is established.
