Abstract
This study describes the effects of in vitro amino acid supplementation on the production of endogenous pyrogen (EP) by blood leukocytes of protein-deprived rabbits. Pyrogen synthesis was severely depressed after six weeks of protein deprivation irrespective of amino acid supplementation (p<0.05) compared to control EP production. In contrast, the production of EP by leukocytes of mildly calorie restricted rabbits was enhanced by acute incubation of cells in culture media.
