Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of HBO therapy on skin graft survival in radiated keloid wound. Methods Keloid excision and skin graft were administered to 25 patients with anterior pectorial keloid, of whom 8 patients were given HBO therapy after surgery. Comparisons were made between the skin graft survival of the patients with HBO therapy and that of other patients without HBO therapy. Then, statistical analysis was made on the skin graft survival rate in different groups with the SPSS software. Results In 8 patients who received HBO therapy after surgery, skin graft survived completely in 7 patents, with a survival rate of 87.7%. In 17 patients who did not receive HBO therapy after surgery, complete skin graft survival was seen in only 5 patents, with a survival rate of 28.4%. Statistical differences could be seen in skin graft survival rate, when comparisons were made between the 2 groups (χ2=5.2, P<0.05). Conclusions HBO could obviously enhance skin graft survival in radiated keloid wound. Key words: Keloid; HBO; Radiotherapy; Skin graft
