Abstract

This article discusses the effects of hydrogenation pretreatment on synthetic polycrystalline diamond composite(PDC). Hydrogen is used for hydrotreating cobalt metal catalyst as a role to protective cobalt and improve the catalytic activity of cobalt in the synthesis of PDC. The PDC is synthesized in a hinged Hexa-orientation Press. The catalytic mechanism of hydrogenation in synthesis PDC is discussed. The polycrystalline diamond (PCD) phases in the PDC samples are confirmed by X-ray diffraction method (XRD). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images reveal the PCD layer surface consist of a homogeneous diamond, cobalt and tungsten carbide alloy. Raman and abrasion ratio methods are used to analyze the performance of PDC. Experimental results show that the residual stress of PCD layer surface is tensile stress and the new method with hydrogenation can improve the abrasion ratio of PDC.
