Abstract

In this paper, the effect of hydrogen on the interfacial reaction between Ti-6Al-4V (Ti64) alloy and graphite casting mold was studied by argon and hydrogen plasma arc melting. The experimental results showed that the thickness and the hardness of the interfacial reaction layer decreased with increasing hydrogen partial pressure. The interaction of activated H atoms in the titanium alloy melt and carbon on the interface, [C] + 4[H] = CH4, could be taking place.
